Welcome to Costco’s Compactor Monitoring Program administered by Wastenet.
PROBLEM & RESOLUTION:The Waste Industry being void of the necessary technology to identify the accurate fullness of an industrial compactor has placed the fullness burden on the user. Unfortunately, most often the user will prematurely empty the compactor; therefore, wasting the opportunity to take advantage of all the usable space. Wastenet being aware of the problem developed certain trademarks, service marks, software and procedures associated with a patented onsite microprocessor (monitor) that identifies a compactor’s true fullness and eliminates unnecessary trips to the landfill. The monitor once it is installed collects the volume of electricity required by the compression motor for each compacting process (cycle). This collected data is then sent wirelessly to Wastenet’s HOST computer where priority software converts it into a visual representation (Graphs) of the compactor’s fullness. A Wastenet professional using these graphs and their reasoning ability calculates the accurate fullness of your compactor and at the appropriate time schedules the empty and return with the service hauler and advises the user of the impending service.PROCESS:The Wastenet monitor will be sent to a designated person at your Warehouse or a contracted installer. Prior to the installation, please select a safe and secure location which will allow easy access to a power source for the monitor and the wiring supplying power to the compactor motor. Typically, this location will be by the compactor at the electrical quick disconnect or inside the building at the main breaker panel which feeds power to the compactor.Note: Detailed installation instructions are included with the monitor.
Wastenet uses the following graphs to calculate the fullness of your compactor and calculate its timely pickup. Our goal is to get your compactor as full as possible while avoiding any disruptions to your work schedule. Trend Graph…is a visual representation of compactor fullness. Each cycle of the compactor is recorded and plotted relative to its fullness with the most recent cycle being to the far right. A red (X) identifies when the compactor was emptied. A red horizontal line identifies the weekday trigger and a blue horizontal line the weekend trigger. These trigger points are calculated for each individual compactor and may be changed based on the need.
Cycle Graph…is a visual picture of the compacting ram’s movement.Empty Cycle:
To the far left is the motor on spike, (0-20 sec mark) is the forward stroke, (20-35 sec mark) is the reverse stroke and followed by two (2) additional compacting strokes before shutting off.
Full Cycle:This is the same compactor ram stroke but notice how the forward stroke has built a peak before it reverses its movement.
Dailey Cycle CountDaily cycle counts are recorded and preserved for reference.
Frequency GraphUsage recorded for a selected number of hours.
History of pickups (25Yard Compactor)Each pickup is recorded and offers the ability to reference prior history, such as prior Holidays.Date emptied / Days between pickups / Percent full / # of cycles needed / Tonnage Weight
Costco has a corporate goal to reduce the number of trips all compactors make to the landfill. As these unnecessary trips equate to a 100% negative impact by wasting your money and our natural resources, unnecessarily polluting the environment, needlessly increasing the wear and tear on the haulers trucks, our roads and the hauler’s increased exposure to accidents on our highways. We are proud that we have reached our target goal and look forward to helping you reach that goal as well. Please remember, we are not associated in any way with your or any other waste hauler. In addition, we do not haul your compactor but rather coordinate the process. We are an independent contractor that works diligently to assure you the best possible service for your compactor needs.
We are available to you anytime (24/7), so please feel free to contact us (day or night).
Please be expecting a call, to go over the program and answer any question you may have. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving your needs.
